Located about 50km to the North-west of Buon Ma Thuot, “Don” Village has the long-standing fame for elephant hunters and trainers. It is also home of many ethnic minority groups like: Ede, M’nong, G’rai, Lao, Thai, etc. Don Village is now becoming a well-know trading tourism of Central Highland in general and Dak Lak tourism in particular.A

Don Village means Island Village”, which is built on the Island inside Serepok River. When mentioning the name of Don Village, it would be a miss if not attaching with its Kru, powerful elephant tribe leaders. Besides, the Indian and France know Don Village for its elephants. Y Pui is a hero of Don Village, who domesticated over 450 elephant. He died at the age of 102 years old in 1985. Local people said that he devoted part of his life as King Bao Dai’s Mahout. After being controlled, elephants have been handed down through generations. It is estimated that it takes about 67 months to tame over a wild elephant on average.
In recent year, travelers have been more excited to visit Don Village, a home of elephants. Don Village becomes the “can-not-be-missed” destination for those who have chance pass through Dak Lak, a highland province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
